A Half-Day in Westeros: The Game of Thrones Studio Tour from Birch Cottage

Game of Thrones Studio Tour

Even if you’ve never watched Game of Thrones, this is surprisingly absorbing.

The studio tour is less about the TV show itself and more about how it was made — from the scale of the sets to the detail in the costumes. You walk through the actual studios, stand inside familiar scenes, and get a real sense of the craft behind it all. It’s impressive even if Westeros means nothing to you.

We’ve been twice and would happily go again.

Allow a good three to four hours if you want to take it in properly. There’s a café at the start and a larger restaurant part-way through, so it works well as a relaxed half-day out rather than something rushed.

It pairs nicely with a quieter evening back at the cottage — especially if the weather isn’t great for walking. Think: outing, late lunch, then back to the fire.

They also run occasional themed events and cast or crew talks during the year. Worth checking their site before you go if that sort of thing appeals.
